Why is SNILS so important?

What is this document and why is it needed?

SNILS or insurance number of an individual personal account is a document that is issued for each citizen by the Pension Fund only once and remains unchanged throughout life. If it turns out that the document was lost, it is possible to restore it, that is, get a duplicate, by personally contacting a government agency. The account is closed upon the death of the owner.

SNILS is represented by a plastic card with a green tint. The number includes 11 digits. The document (certificate of compulsory pension insurance) is confirmation that the citizen is insured.

Contributions that come from the official employer or from the owner himself are transferred to this account. The front of the card contains the following information:

owner's personal insurance account;
surname, name, patronymic of the insured person;
Date and place of birth;
date of registration with the Pension Fund.

A citizen may need an insurance document in the following situations:

official employment;
fulfillment of taxpayer obligations;
registration of a social card in electronic form;
for registration on the official portal of State Services and the Pension Fund;
to contact state and municipal medical institutions (in this situation, the insurance document can be replaced with a medical policy);
for processing social benefits and preferences;
for use as a travel document.

Important!
Registration of SNILS is not a mandatory procedure, but in most situations you cannot do without this document. To process payments or carry out other manipulations, it is allowed to provide a copy of the document or simply indicate its number.

How to get SNILS?

The document can be obtained in one of the following ways:

in the branches of the Pension Fund of Russia - the Pension Fund of Russia;
in MFCs - multifunctional;
through the employer when applying for a job.

Documents to be received

passport or other identification document (for children under 14 years of age, a birth certificate is required);
document confirming the identity of the legal representative (parent, guardian, adoptive parent, etc.), for children under 14 years of age.

Find the nearest multifunctional center and find out whether the service for issuing SNILS is provided (the range of government services in the MFC is not the same - differences are possible).

Go to the indicated window, tell them about the need to get a SNILS number and show your passport.
Sign the application for the preparation of a certificate and go about your business.

The certificate will be ready within five days; another 1-2 days will be required to deliver the certificate to the MFC. If you only need a number, inform the center specialist about this - it will be communicated only if technically possible.

What to do if there is no insurance certificate or it is lost

Didn’t receive SNILS: You can only receive SNILS in person; for this you will need an original passport or child’s birth certificate. As a rule, any working citizen of the Russian Federation has a certificate; if you have not received it, you must contact the Pension Fund of Russia (PFR) at your place of residence, where you will need to fill out a special form. Three weeks after applying, you can pick up the completed certificate. Restoring a child’s SNILS

We have already written above that if a green SNILS card is lost, a new card will not be issued since 2021. This also applies to SNILS of minors. Plus, one number written down on a simple piece of paper will not be enough to provide it to work or various authorities, with the exception of some online services where you may need it. Checking SNILS for authenticity

To check SNILS for authenticity, you can use a certain procedure:

Find the identifier of the insured person on the certificate form. It is presented as a number in the format NNN-NNN-NNN KK, where NNN-NNN-NNN is the number itself, and KK is the checksum.
Multiply each digit of the number by its inverse serial number, that is, multiply the first digit by 9, the second by 8, etc.
Add all the resulting numbers together.
Compare the resulting amount with the control number KK:

If the QC coincides with the calculation results, the SNILS is real.
If the CC is 100 or 101, the checksum will contain 00.
If the CC is greater than 101, sequentially subtract 101 from the resulting calculation result until a two-digit number is obtained, which must coincide with the checksum specified in the certificate.

The presence of a difference between two numbers is a sure sign of a fake.

How to check the authenticity/validity of a certificate

Deadline for receiving a new SNILS
