How to return wallpaper to the store: the correct procedure

The return of goods itself is always associated with dissatisfaction. When considering the topic of whether it is possible to return the wallpaper back to the store, you can determine that there may be even more motives for this. This is due to the features of this product. This includes mismatches in color, texture, and even quantity. The law protects the rights of buyers and establishes a certain time period for returns.

Is it possible to return the wallpaper?

The possibility and conditions for returning goods are determined by the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights. According to Article 25, the buyer can exchange any quality item in three cases:

  • Didn't match the color or style.
  • An error was made when choosing the size.
  • Not satisfied with the equipment.

If it was not possible to select a similar item from the available assortment, the seller is obliged to return the money.

Exceptions include products listed in Government Decree No. 55: hygiene products, household chemicals, medical products, clothing products, complex household appliances and building materials sold by the meter.

Although the length of wallpaper per roll is measured in meters, they are sold in packages and are designed for a long period of use. Therefore, wallpaper is not included in the list of non-returnable goods. You can exchange or return them on a general basis: if you don’t like them, the color or width of the roll doesn’t suit you.

Terms and conditions for returning wallpaper of good quality

Whether wallpaper of proper quality can be returned can be determined based on Article 25 of the Consumer Protection Law. [Since wallpaper belongs to non-food products and is not included in the list approved by Government Decree No. 55 of January 19, 1998, they are subject to exchange within 14 days if they do not meet the criteria:

  • variety;
  • colors;
  • texture;
  • size.

Article No. 502 of the Civil Code and Art. No. 25 PZPP defines the conditions for returning goods of good quality:

  • no more than 14 days have expired;
  • non-food product;
  • packaging integrity;
  • the product is not included in a special list approved by law;
  • Having a receipt for payment is not a prerequisite.

Sometimes people make mistakes when calculating wallpaper footage and take extra rolls. Then they begin to wonder whether it is possible to return the excess wallpaper to the store. Theoretically, the goods are issued with a general receipt, so the store can only issue a return in full. But, in practice, sellers try not to refuse the buyer, so as not to contact higher authorities and preserve their reputation.

Return Policy

You can refuse the purchase and withdraw your money if several conditions are met:

  • The presentation was not damaged. The seller has the right to refuse to exchange or accept the product if the buyer decides to return the wallpaper without packaging or labels.
  • There is documentary evidence of purchase in a specific department. You can hand over rolls without a receipt if you present other documents confirming payment - a receipt, sales receipt, invoice, statement of debit from a bank card. As a last resort, you can request a duplicate of the sales receipt or find two witnesses who will confirm the date of purchase.

When making a return, follow the deadlines provided by law. Quality goods can be returned within 14 days from the date of purchase. The date of purchase is not considered.

Low quality: return policy.

In this case, the rolls may have a “knocked down” design, smudged paint, torn or stained areas, the edge of the roll is wet, torn, etc. All this is treated as a defect and must be returned.

If there is a defect, the buyer has the right:

  • Exchange for an analogue, but without defects.
  • Give up the defect and buy wallpaper for that amount at a different price, paying extra for expensive ones or demanding a refund of the difference for a cheap product.
  • Ask for a discount on what you purchased.
  • Request from the retail outlet the full amount paid for the purchase.

Important! An exception is when the consumer purchases discounted wallpaper, leftovers, in opened packaging, or the seller honestly indicated what type of defect is present.

If a defect is noticed when 14 days have passed from the date of purchase, then, according to Art. 18 of the Law on Protection of Products, the consumer has the right to a return or replacement during the warranty period.

If it is not specified by the manufacturer, then within 2 years.

Return the goods to Leroy.

If a defect is detected

If the wallpaper turns out to be of poor quality, there are four options to get out of the situation:

  • Demand that the defective product be replaced with a similar one from the same manufacturer.
  • Choose a cheaper or more expensive model and recalculate the purchase price.
  • Ask for a discount.
  • Write a request for a refund.

The basis for the requirements may be: a defect in the design, white spots, mechanical damage to the canvas, packaging.

You can refuse to purchase such a product even if more than 14 days have passed from the date of purchase. The maximum period for filing a quality claim is two years in the absence of information about the warranty period.

Exceptions include cases where the seller has discounted the rolls due to a small defect and warned the buyer about it when issuing a check. Claims to quality can only be made if other types of defects are detected.

If a check is lost

The buyer cannot be refused to return the wallpaper if there is no receipt in hand. The fact of purchase is confirmed:

  • witnesses;
  • warranty card and other identical documentation with a purchase mark;
  • commodity account;
  • payment transactions.

Usually, in small shops, all customers are recognized and taken at their word. Almost all small retail outlets keep accounting books and are able to restore the progress of all sales. Few sellers would want to deal with the courts.

In what cases is the law on the seller’s side?

The store administration has the right to refuse the buyer in the following cases:

  • If the packaging is opened, there are no labels with information about the batch, article number, or production date.
  • The defect appeared after the transfer of the goods due to your fault.
  • The application for the return of high-quality wallpaper was submitted after the end of the “cooling period” - two weeks.

To avoid refusal and prove your innocence in the first two cases, take photographs of the packages at the time of receipt . If you missed the cooling period, you can only return defective rolls.

Is it possible to return souvenirs, in particular playing cards?

Souvenir products can be returned regardless of whether it refers to ordinary New Year's little things or commemorative products of the places of origin. It is only important to remember about the safety of the presentation, packaging and the presence of a document of purchase. At the same time, playing cards should be classified not so much as souvenirs, but as printed products. Therefore, a deck of playing cards cannot be returned unless it is defective.

Is it possible to return animals and plants if they are stuffed animals and dried flowers or seeds?

The list does not indicate that the animals must be alive. But it is understood that living animals are meant. And you cannot return a purchased animal (of course, unless there is a hidden defect that the buyer was not notified about in advance). This refers to any animal - from horses to aquarium fish and insects. You can return stuffed animals; they are no longer animals, but interior decorations.

As for plants, no potted flowers, bouquets or dried flowers can be returned. In addition, seeds cannot be returned. Essentially, these are future plants.

Can I return lighters, lighter fluid, candles and sparklers?

  • A lighter that is not filled with gas or gasoline can be returned or exchanged according to the normal return rules prescribed for non-food products, since the lighter is not a technically complex product and does not relate to weapons and household chemicals. This applies to reusable and piezo lighters. But disposable lighters filled with flammable mixtures, gas, and gasoline cannot be returned. Firstly, gasoline for lighters belongs to the group of household chemicals. Secondly, it is difficult to prove that you did not use the lighter (the liquid level is not visible in all of them).
  • Ignition fluid cannot be returned.
  • The return of sparklers and fireworks is possible if the packaging is intact, only if there is the good will of the seller. In general, the production of firecrackers and sparklers is household pyrotechnics, which belongs to I and II (minimal) hazard classes, and in fact, these are the same household chemicals, just in a different wrapper.
  • Candles, both household and souvenir, cannot be returned, even if the packaging and presentation are intact. This applies to both paraffin and wax candles (household, decorative, ritual).

Alexander Borisov

Deputy Head of Roskachestvo

– If you do not see a particular item on the non-returnable items list, this does not mean that it can be returned. For example, lighter fluid is not on the list of non-returnable items. existing lists of household chemicals either.

. By the way, there are no GOSTs or technical regulations for this product yet. On the one hand, lighter fluids are similar to fuels and lubricants. On the other hand, their composition is slightly different. And here we must take into account the important point for what purposes the liquids are used. And these products are used in everyday life. And, therefore, lighter fluid, by analogy, can be classified as household chemicals, which are classified as non-returnable goods. Accordingly, such a product (if it is of high quality) cannot be returned to the store.

Household chemicals also include wax and paraffin candles, dry alcohol, dry fuel and gasoline for lighters.
