It is not visible in writing, but in spoken speech it is not always clear how to correctly place the emphasis on this word: on “O” or “U”?

The dictionary, authored by S.I. Ozhegov, recommends pronouncing the word “time off” with an emphasis on the vowel “u” and using the plural, respectively, “time off”.

Time off is time off that an employer can provide to employees as compensation for working on a non-working day or other time.

Since the concept of “time off” is absent in official documents regulating labor relations, in this case it should be understood as “performing duties (direct or additional) overtime” or “compensation for overtime in the form of additional leave.” In everyday personnel use, the first definition is heard more often and more commonly. It is the most popular one.

In some online publications, as well as reference books and cheat sheets for personnel officers, time off is classified as vacation, and this definition is reflected in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation (Article 124). In this case, their payment is calculated according to the same scheme as for the main vacation. However, it is not advisable to confuse the concepts of “time off” and “vacation”.

How to write a sample application: the correct form

  1. The header of the application is written in the upper right corner indicating the position and full name. manager, name of the enterprise, full name, position of the applicant.
  2. In the middle of the document you should write the name of the document – ​​“Application”.
  3. The following is the text of the document with the following content:

What relevant regulations exist can be found in Art. 152 Labor Code of the Russian Federation. This falls within the competence of the manager.

  1. It is necessary to pay for the first two hours of overtime work in the amount of 1.5 units of salary, and for all subsequent time - twice. Reducing ratios is not allowed and entails administrative liability;

Categories of “time off” workers

Everyone working at an enterprise or institution, regardless of their position, salary, or total working time, can apply for time off if there are specific labor discipline requirements.

Available to those who:

  • went out to work on weekends and holidays;
  • was involved in performing duties overtime, that is, outside the work schedule;
  • went out at the request of the employer during his vacation, etc.;
  • worked overtime on shift work;
  • donated blood in specialized institutions.

Application for leave for an hour or several hours

Is it necessary to write such a statement? It all depends on how strictly the time worked and payment for it are kept at the enterprise. If the organization is experiencing strict cost savings, it is quite possible that such a document will be needed. Time off for previously worked time

The employee must be given a choice: if he overworked his time on a non-working day (Saturday or Sunday for a five-day week, Sunday for a six-day week), he can take another day for rest. In this case, payment is made, but in a single amount. Days off are not subject to payment.

This name speaks for itself. An employee applying for time off works overtime hours long before submitting the application. As a rule, at work, employees “earn” time off by taking the initiative to perform additional work or work that extends beyond their schedule.

These works are different:

  • unplanned;
  • overtime;
  • complexity and importance of execution.

It is acceptable that performing additional work is not included in the list of approved functional responsibilities for a particular position in the organization.

Unscheduled work is work provided at the initiative of the employer, which requires immediate execution. Can be performed without increasing working hours.

Overtime work, on the other hand, does not require the intensity and tension of unscheduled work, but is performed outside the working day.

Complex and important work may be assigned in exceptional cases.

Individual overtime work can be presented as:

  • disaster prevention;
  • liquidation of the consequences of the disaster;
  • preventing accidents, destruction or damage to property;
  • work in wartime after the announcement of general mobilization and other particularly important situations.

Procedure for provision

After the application is signed, the manager issues an order and gives it to the employee for review. As soon as the latter signs, his request is considered valid.

You also need to know: if an employee needs an additional day off, he does not have to work overtime to provide it - there are two other ways to get another day off, or even several, when you can solve all your business:

  1. Take a day off as paid vacation;
  2. Take a vacation at your own expense.

Time off towards vacation

After six months of work in the company, each employee is given 28 days of paid leave. You can use them either by using them all at once or by dividing them into several parts. The only rule that is important to follow in this case is to go on vacation once for at least 14 days. The remaining time can be used as you please.

To do this, you need to write a statement about your desire to take extraordinary paid leave, indicate from what date and for how many days. You can use it one day or take it for several days in a row.

Vacation at your own expense

If there are no vacation days left, or another six months have not passed since the date of registration with the company, you have the opportunity to take a vacation at your own expense at any time. It will not be paid - the salary will be deducted from the rate for those days that the person was absent.

The application is written in the same form, only the following must be written as the main text: “I ask you to grant me leave without pay from (indicate the start date of the leave) for (number of days) for the reason (indicate it).” Most often, the reason is simply “family reasons.”

The decision to provide leave at his own expense always remains with the employer. If an employee does not have a good reason why he cannot come to work, he may be denied time off.

There are only three reasons why leave without pay is mandatory:

  • wedding;
  • birth of a child;
  • death of a relative.

Sometimes it is necessary to provide a document confirming the veracity of the reason specified in the application.

The application is the most important document

All labor relations in the workplace must be regulated in writing. Each employee should be superficially familiar with the types of documents provided to the manager in a given case. An application for time off is no exception. If time off is not documented in writing, it may turn into absenteeism, thereby becoming the basis for disciplinary action and leading to unpleasant consequences. Therefore, no one cancels the formal side of labor relations.

  • Calculate the hours of overtime yourself (be honest and responsible about the calculation).

Counting days of annual leave

Some organizations use this method, but we do not recommend using it for the following reasons:

  1. The periods of annual paid leave are fixed in a schedule that is binding on both the employee and the employer.
  2. By providing this type of time off, the employer will have to:
      make changes to the vacation schedule;
  3. notify the employee of the upcoming vacation at least two weeks in advance;
  4. the accounting department will have to accrue money to the employee 3 days before his day off (after all, in essence it will be a paid vacation);
  5. issue an order and familiarize the employee with it.
  6. If you do not do what is set out in paragraph 2, you can run into trouble, the least of which is the employee’s reluctance to admit that due to time off, the number of vacation days should be reduced.

But if the organization has already established such a procedure, then the employee writes a statement in which he asks to be given one of the days of his annual paid leave unscheduled. In this case, the employee must pay for the time off.
